Celebrating National AccessAbility Week: Why Accessibility at Home Matters
National AccessAbility Week (May 25–31, 2025) is a time to recognize the importance eliminating barriers not just in our communities, but in our homes as well. This week, we’re shining a spotlight on how thoughtful home design can improve quality of life and help people live and remain in their homes safely, comfortably, and independently.
Designing Homes for Life
Whether you’re adapting your space due to a sudden injury, living with a disability, or simply planning for the future, accessibility should be a core consideration in any home renovation. An accessibility renovation isn’t just about addressing current challenges, it’s an investment in your long-term comfort. By creating a home that adapts with you, many homeowners are also able to avoid the emotional and financial burden of downsizing or relocating later in life. One of the most effective ways to future-proof your home is through an Adaptiv Home Renovation—an approach that tailors your home to your unique needs today while preparing it for tomorrow.
With the help of Adaptiv Home certified designer (Amsted Staff: Chris Mulholland & Danica Guibord), we integrate accessible and universal design features during the early planning stages of custom builds or renovations. These modifications can be as simple and cost-effective as improved lighting or wider doorways, or more comprehensive such as adding an elevator or reconfiguring a bathroom with a curbless shower.
