We work with an awesome group of professionals and we want to show them off, which is why we started this series: We’d like you to meet the team behind the Amsted name. They’re a fun, dedicated bunch and a huge part of the reason clients continue to give us great reviews and referrals.
In no particular order, we’re gradually introducing you to our staff, sharing a bit about who they are, what the love and some of their favourite projects.

I have the privilege of working with an exceptional team of dedicated professionals who share similar values as well as an unwavering commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. I have the luxury of being able to see 100% of the projects we do and see first hand the positive changes we make in people’s everyday lives. I am well used, satisfied and inspired. I look forward to many more years and dreams to come.
Fave project?
An accessible project in the Glebe. Working with this family every day and seeing how they cope with life’s challenges was inspirational. The project itself was amazing, the reason for doing it was meaningful and the positive impact provided to me was 10 times that of the effort I put in. This project solidified my commitment to clients for life.
Away from work I…
Love hockey, snowmobiling, boating and all within a family environment. I love spending time with those I love.
Fave project in your own home?
Originally it was my garage. It is my dream garage. More recently, however, it is my family room. The redesign was inspired by my wife and I am so proud that I was able to bring her dream to life. For very different reasons, we both love our “new” room.
Best part about working at Amsted?
Working with amazing people within the company and within the homes we build and renovate. We all know we are in the people business, not the construction business. We go out of our way to ensure we are providing an experience second to none. We are not perfect and we do make mistakes, but we never stop trying. My father always said not to judge someone on their mistakes but rather on what they do upon discovery. The true nature of a person is how they respond when their back is against the wall. At Amsted, we have each other’s back and our customers’, too. Getting it right means everything.

Fave project?
The most memorable project that comes to mind is one that I did on Riverdale. It was a fun interior project where we replaced all their interior doors on the second floor and added an electric fireplace with a beautiful mantel and tilework. We also added some nice built-in custom cabinets on either side of the new fireplace bump-out. It is memorable to me because it was one of the first full projects that I got to run and be involved in from start to finish. It also had its challenges, such as framing bulkheads up to a sloped ceiling and fitting new doors into existing frames. I’ll always remember the end of the job when we got to reveal their new bedroom to the owners and to see how happy they were with their new space.
Away from work I…
Like to work on my own home, a 1920s two-storey house in Carp. It’s a nice area that I’m happy to call home and maintaining my home and property keeps my evenings full. In the summer I enjoy camping and fishing, and in the winter I enjoy curling and snowmobiling; generally I like to be outdoors!
Fave project in your own home?
Being a new homeowner, I haven’t done too many in-depth renovations to our own home as we quickly realised how expensive being a homeowner can be, but I would have to say my favourite room would be our master bedroom. My fiancée and I worked on it together, we designed, built and stained our own bedframe, and put together all of the other furniture. We also repainted it and designed and built our own closet cabinets.
Best part about working at Amsted?
Definitely the clients and the relationships you build with them over the course of a project. I am always surprised how well you get to know people in the short amount of time that you have with them in their home. It’s great to see the transformation of their home and their excitement to see the final product. When you get to see that you’ve made a difference in their life, that you were able to contribute to making the renovation that they worked hard for and put so much thought into come to life, there’s no feeling like it. Working at Amsted is more than just a job to me, it’s my passion, and I’m honoured to work for a company with so many other great people who share that same passion.
