If you’re planning a renovation, what better way to check out a prospective renovator than to visit them at one of their completed projects? That’s the thinking behind the RenoTour, an annual showcase of Ottawa renovation projects and trends that’s now in its third year.
Amsted has been proud to support this RenoMark initiative and we’ve had a home on the tour every year. It’s a great way to see the craftsmanship and detail put into a renovation project, as well as ask questions of the staff who made it happen.
Our project on the tour this year is a main-floor renovation and small addition in Alta Vista for a family who didn’t like their divided layout and wanted more functionality and space at their front entrance.
By claiming an exterior porch and converting it into an interior entryway, we were able to create a roomy and welcoming foyer that better meets the needs of the family.
In the living space, we removed the wall dividing the kitchen and dining room, expanded the kitchen and re-organized the floor plan to create a more modernized space.
The new kitchen features natural bamboo cabinetry, black pearl granite and a glass tile backsplash. It includes a peninsula with counter seating. A convenient, custom wine bar with similar finishes expands the kitchen and pulls the rooms together.
The adjacent living room includes a beautiful fireplace update with floor-to-ceiling tile surround and custom built-ins.
The main bathroom was also reconfigured and personalized with a cherry wood vanity and bold accent tiles, blending both modern and natural esthetic into the rest of the home for a seamless transition between old and new.
Reno Tour 2017 is presented by the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association, which supports the RenoMark program in Ottawa. RenoMark offers homeowners the reassurance of pre-screened contractors who must meet strict guidelines regarding things such as insurance, workers’ compensation coverage and credibility.
There are six other homes along with ours on the tour and each of the homes will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15. Tickets are $10, with proceeds going to support Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa, which helps the working poor become homeowners by building affordable housing and offering interest-free mortgages.
We look forward to seeing you there!
