Wow! We’ve Been Nominated for 14 Local &Amp; Provincial Housing Awards

Posted August 20, 2018

We’re thrilled to announce that 7 of our stunning projects have been nominated for local and provincial awards this year! Both the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association and the Ontario Home Builders’ Association released the lists of finalists for their respective housing awards programs last week and Amsted is up for a whopping 14 awards!

Both sets of awards are judged by experts in our industry, who look at the entries with the critical eye of someone who knows the business and the standards to which we should be held. It makes winning that much more satisfying.

And while the truest validation of our work is a homeowner’s satisfaction in a job well done, it’s also a thrill to be recognized by our peers. We have had a long track record of collecting trophies over the years, but that certainly doesn’t make us complacent. If anything, it pushes us to strive even harder to improve on our achievements.

We’re particularly honoured to also be in the running once again for both the provincial and local Renovator of the Year awards. These special achievement awards are a category we have won a record seven times locally and two of the last three years at the provincial level. To us, that says a lot about the quality of the work we do, the service we provide and the professionalism and dedication to our industry that we live by.

We’ll introduce you in greater detail to each of our nominated projects in the coming weeks as we wait for the winners to be announced this fall, but for now, here’s a sneak peek at these outstanding designs:

Triple threat

A main-floor renovation that maximized efficiency while creating an open-concept layout that fit within the confines of the original space has resulted in both local and provincial recognition for this project. It has been nominated in the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA) Housing Design Awards for Renovation $350,001 – $500,000. As well, the Ontario Home Builders’ Association (OHBA) has named it a finalist in both the Kitchen Renovation and Bathroom Renovation categories for its Awards of Distinction!

Double take, part 1

There is storage galore — and a continuity of design — in this renovation project, which touched on the kitchen, dining and living areas, as well as the upper floor. As is often the case, the owners wanted a more open concept while maintaining the charm of their home. The project is a finalist in the local awards for both Renovation $100,001 – $200,000 and Custom Kitchen (180-240 sq. ft.) – Traditional.

Double take, part 2

Another project to garner two nominations, this elegant home makeover was personally planned down to the last detail to suit the growing needs of the family without compromising traditional style. The home was completely renovated from top to bottom, maintaining its vintage connection while transforming it into a thoroughly modern home. It’s up for two GOHBA Housing Design Awards: Renovation $350,001 – $500,000 and Custom Kitchen (241 sq. ft. or more) – Traditional $75,001 and over.

Double take, part 3

And a third project has received double nominations! This charming condo renovation turned an industrial space into a fresh, feminine retreat that’s layered in white, stylish and tranquil. Although many elements of this home were repurposed, they got a much-needed facelift to create a cohesive and purposeful design. This condo is a finalist for two local awards: Renovation under $100,000 and Custom Kitchen (180 sq. ft. or less) – Traditional.

Turtle-y awesome

An unfinished basement provided the perfect canvas to help this family build everything they wanted in their lower-level getaway, including a space for their beloved turtles. This renovation includes a movie theatre, home gym, hidden sewing station and plenty of room to relax – with clever ways to tuck things away when not in use. This project is nominated for a GOHBA Basement Renovation award.

Small but mighty

A space doesn’t have to be large to pack a punch, as this kitchen makeover shows. It maximizes storage and functionality, with rich cherry cabinets complemented by Cambria Cardiff Cream quartz and a light tile backsplash to make the space feel bright. The project is up for a local award for Custom Kitchen (180 sq. ft. or less) – Traditional.

5 and counting

And last but certainly not least, the OHBA has nominated this addition for its category of Home Renovation up to $250,000. The goal here was to increase the square footage and open it up to accommodate this soon-to-be family of 6. It incorporates classic finishes for durability, with pops of personality like the red kitchen backsplash, but what’s most impressive is how this small 3-bedroom home was turned into a 5-bedroom home with 3 full bathrooms and large, open-concept living spaces.

Good luck to all our finalists!
